Thalapathy Vijay generated a great stir not just in the film business but also in political circles on June 17th due to the overwhelming reaction he received for his School toppers meet. On behalf of its leader, the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam summoned young achievers and their parents from all 234 seats in Tamil Nadu and not only awarded them medals but also cash rewards.

The gathering sent strong signs of Vijay’s impending political debut, and pundits are already arguing whether he would run in the Indian Parliamentary elections in May 2024 or the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2026.

Certain television and internet media outlets are now reporting that Vijay will take a three-year hiatus from acting after completing ‘Thalapathy 68’ to focus on politics.

Vijay has just finished filming Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ‘Leo,’ in which he co-stars with Trisha, and which will be released in theatres globally on October 19th. He is slated to take a three-month break before returning to the sets of Venkat Prabhu’s ‘Thalapathy 68’ in October.

The film is set to be released on Diwali 2024, although Vijay’s role will be completed by June or July. According to sources, he will thereafter be actively involved in his party’s activities.

According to other rumours, Vijay’s ‘Thalapathy 69’ is already in the works, with Atlee as director and Sun Pictures as the financier. However, the same sources claim that no agreements have been inked and that only time will tell whether Vijay would take such a long absence and surprise his admirers.
